Golden Triangle Polymers chose Emerson in equipment automation
Emerson to Power $8.5 Billion Golden Triangle Polymers Project with Advanced Digital Automation
St. Louis, March 13th, 2023 — A landmark step forward in global petrochemical infrastructure as Emerson (NYSE: EMR) secures a major contract for the Texas Gulf Coast.
Emerson, a globally recognized leader in intelligent automation and digital transformation, has officially announced that it has been selected to provide its advanced automation technology, comprehensive software solutions, and specialized engineering services for the highly anticipated Golden Triangle Polymers project. This world-class, integrated petrochemical complex is currently under active development on the Gulf Coast of Texas. Representing one of the most significant investments in U.S. chemical manufacturing infrastructure in recent history, this massive facility is a joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP and an indirect subsidiary of QatarEnergy. With an estimated total capital cost of $8.5 billion, the project is scheduled for startup in 2026 and will serve as a cornerstone for regional and global polymer supply chains.
Deploying Industry-Leading Digital Solutions for Maximum Efficiency
To support safe, highly efficient, and sustainable operations, Emerson will deploy its comprehensive suite of digital automation solutions tailored for large-scale petrochemical environments. The extensive scope of supply includes integrated process control and safety systems based on the industry-renowned DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) and safety instrumented system (SIS). These systems are designed to ensure uncompromising reliability and strict regulatory compliance. Furthermore, to enhance real-time process monitoring and rigorous quality control, Emerson will implement state-of-the-art Rosemount gas analyzers and color spectrometer solutions. The project will also leverage advanced simulation tools, including Mimic and AspenTech HYSYS, which will be utilized extensively for operator training, energy management, safety analysis, and operational optimization, ultimately enabling faster commissioning and vastly improved decision-making capabilities.
Strategic Collaboration and Operational Excellence
Additionally, Emerson’s AgileOps operations management software and expert alarm management services will be deployed to help plant personnel maintain optimal performance of control and safety systems, significantly reduce operational risks, and improve overall process integrity. This project marks another major deployment of Emerson’s comprehensive automation portfolio in large-scale petrochemical facilities, following similar successful implementations such as the Ras Laffan Petrochemical Complex in Qatar.
"Both the Golden Triangle Polymers project and the Ras Laffan Petrochemical Complex are landmark ethane cracker facilities that have chosen Emerson’s digital automation technology, software, and domain expertise to operate safer, smarter, and more sustainably. We are proud to support Chevron Phillips Chemical and QatarEnergy in building what will be one of the most advanced and optimized chemical plants in the world."
This strategic collaboration underscores the growing demand for integrated digital solutions in the global energy and chemical sectors, where operational excellence, sustainability, and digital transformation are key priorities. With Emerson’s proven technologies and deep industry knowledge, the Golden Triangle Polymers facility is poised to set new benchmarks in efficiency, safety, and environmental performance upon completion in 2026.
